A runner with weak knees?

I%26#039;m a distance runner and lately my knees feel fatigued when running. The other day one of my knees actually buckled while I was running. They do NOT HURT and my shoes are less than a year old so im assuming its not from that.

What%26#039;s wrong?

How to I treat it?

Thank you all so much! And please be respectful even though I%26#039;m only a highschool athlete. I do take this very seriously and it%26#039;s extremely important to me so be polite :]

Reply:you say your shoes are less than a year old but have you ran 300miles in them? if yes its time for a change, preferably a higher cushioned upgrade.

also, try running on grass or sand

try cod liver oil for your joints

get an opinon from a physio

hope this helps
Reply:they say BIKING is a rehab for the knees.. :]
Reply:You probably need to do some strengthening work. Exactly what is needed should be assessed by an athletic trainer or an ortopedist.

A lot of distance runners, especially those who do not lift weights, do drills, speed workouts or stretch enough, end up with muscel imbalances in their legs. Those imbalances can lead to problems such as yours. (The most common culprit is an overdeveloped hamstring and an underdeveloped quadricep.)

You may also look into your running form, as poor form can contribute to knee injuries.

And while surely not related, distance runners should normally get a new pair of shoes at least every 6 months, maybe more depeding on the mileage.
Reply:My experience had me incorporating cycling with running and my knee pains disappeared. And of course there is the ancient knowledge we all share; a daily 30 minutes or so jog/walk in the sea water is the greatest and most natural healer of all ailments and injuries. Ask a race horse?? lol
