Does anybody knows how to adjust the Parking Brake on a 2003 Impala?

I am trying to adjust the parking brake on my car. It rolls when parked on a hill. It rests on the Park Transmission pin or gets Torque Lockout. I adjusted the cable at the turn buckle behind the gas tank. But seems to help just a little bit. Also noticed the system uses a Shoe Brake system for the Park Brake and discs for regular braking. Kind of odd...!

Slake adjuster on the brake cable
Reply:As an 05 Impala owner (getting ready to hit the 100k mark) I can tell you without a doubt that adjusting the cable will not solve the problem. The cable length, tension, and adjustment variables are all set to spec at the factory and should never be changed. When the E-Brake starts to fail it%26#039;s because the shoe system in the rear is starting to fail. Unless you%26#039;ve had some sort of strange failure of the cable or have stretched it from excessive use it%26#039;s highly unlikely that adjusting the cable will provide an adequate solution.

With that said you%26#039;re adjustments will seemingly improve the e-brake performance...temporarily. Manually adjusting the cable will also further extend the cable and tension induced stretching may cause it to eventually snap. I would recommend removing the driver side rear wheel, pull the rotor off and inspect the e-brake shoes. There%26#039;s a good chance they%26#039;re worn down pretty far.

If the car was ever driven with the E-brake on the shoe life would%26#039;ve gone out the window over the course of just a few miles. New e-brake shoes for the Impala are inexpensive and easy to replace. The entire job should run around $35 and take no more than 1.5 hours.

Hope this helps!
Reply:Some, older, Corvettes have the same type parking brake. You%26#039;ll probably have to adjust the park brake %26#039;shoes%26#039; out to properly have them engage when you apply the park brake.
Reply:I really enjoy answering a question when everybody above is right give the first guy his points first come first served good answer guys
Reply:VERY COMMON........................

YOU WILL NEED TO INSPECT THE SMALL BRAKE SHOES THAT ARE INSIDE THE REAR OF THE ROTOR.

MANY TIMES PEOPLE NEVER LOOK AT THESE AND THE ADJUSTER IS COMPLETELY OUT OR THE BRAKE SHOES ARE WORN OUT.
